The Orbit Leak

Orbit is a small company in Lille. Tomorrow at 9:00, it launches its first app.

Tonight at 23:52, someone sent Orbit's secret presentation for investors (the "pitch deck") to Helix Labs, Orbit's biggest rival. The email came from a computer inside Orbit's office.

The boss of Orbit (the CEO) is Steve Hindmarsh, your teacher. He has locked all the doors. Nobody leaves until you find out who did it, how and why. You have 70 minutes.

Six locks. Each correct code opens the next card.
How the game works

What is this game?

This is an escape game. Your team is locked in Orbit's office. To get out, you must open 6 locks. Each lock is a question about the mystery.

The clues are on your phones, but every player has a different clue. Nobody can find the answer alone. You must talk to your team, in English.

Your mission

Find out who sent the secret email, how they did it and why.

Your team: who does what?

  • The team screen (1 person). Choose "Team screen". You read each question aloud to your team. You type the team's answers. You also help to solve the mystery.
  • Players A, B, C and D. Choose the letter your teacher gives you. Your phone shows your secret clue card. Only you can see it. You read it aloud to your team.
  • The CEO is your teacher, Steve Hindmarsh. He walks around and listens. At Lock 6, you call him to your table and explain the case. Speak to him like a real boss: clearly, politely and with evidence.
  • Only 4 in your team? One player opens this page in a second tab and chooses "Team screen" too.
  • Only 3? One player chooses "A + D" and reads both cards.

How one lock works (example: Lock 1)

  1. The team screen reads the question: "Which badge was used by the wrong person?"
  2. Each player reads their card. Player A has a list of staff badges. Player B has the door log. Player C has the door codes. Player D has Tom's messages.
  3. You talk and ask questions: "Can you read that again?" "Where was Tom at 23:27?"
  4. When everybody agrees, the team screen types the answer and presses Unlock.
  5. Wrong answer? Talk again and try again.
  6. Correct? The team screen tells you more of the story. Then every player types the same answer at the bottom of their phone. Your next card opens.

The 6 locks

  1. The badge log. Find the badge that someone used to get into the building.
  2. The statements. Four people tell their story. One of them is lying. Who?
  3. The phone calls. Put two phone calls in the right order and act one out.
  4. The draft in the printer. Make an informal email more formal.
  5. The job offer. Read a letter and do the maths together.
  6. Your case. Explain everything to the CEO (your teacher). If he believes you, he gives you the exit code.

Time and penalties

You have 70 minutes. The clock is on the team screen.

You use a hint (1 per lock)+2 minutes
Someone speaks French+1 minute
Someone shows their screen+1 minute

Do not help other teams, and do not ask them for answers.

How to win

Typing fast is not enough. At Lock 6, the CEO (your teacher) must believe your story. The team with the best time, penalties included, wins.
